Senior members of the firm’s Career Development team are available to meet with attorneys at all levels to discuss any topics relating to career development, including networking, raising their profiles, developing professional skills and setting goals. They also can assist Paul, Weiss attorneys, summer associates and alumni as they navigate transitions, including pursuing judicial clerkship opportunities.

Conferences

The firm hosts annual conferences for attorneys to practice professional skills and develop and deepen their connections with peers and partners at key milestones in their careers:

  • New Associate Orientation, held each fall, introduces new associates to Paul, Weiss and provides the foundation for success at the firm.
  • The Midlevel Associate Conference focuses on critical project management skills and team collaboration, including effectively communicating with colleagues across different perspectives, practices and experience levels, and is designed to prepare associates for the transition from junior to midlevel.
  • The Senior Associate Leadership Conference, led by leading academics and partners, focuses on leadership development and business development.

Corporate Department Trainings

When associates join the Corporate Department as first-years, we prepare them for a strong start, beginning with our substantive and hands-on programs at New Associate Orientation. From there, junior associates participate in our practice group-specific trainings taught by partners, counsel and associates with whom they work. These comprehensive department-specific curricula include substantive training on legal and business topics, skills-based training and individual coaching. In addition to these rotation-specific trainings, junior associates will also participate in a skills-based bootcamp during their second year. Over three half-day sessions, the bootcamp covers best practices, collaboration across practice groups, deal management and career insights from partners. Litigation Department Trainings

Our litigation training consists of both substantive and skills-oriented programs and workshops for attorneys of all seniority levels, including an intensive two-year mandatory curriculum for first-year and second-year associates. The first-year curriculum, the Litigation I training series, begins with a number of introductory programs as part of New Associate Orientation in the fall, and is followed by training programs offered approximately once a week through May. In addition to these standalone programs, junior associates will also participate in a series of half-day bootcamps that focus on a particular topic or litigation skill. Programs include overviews of the lifecycle of a litigation and an investigation, along with an introduction to key documents associates are likely to encounter at each phase of a litigation. These initial programs are followed by more in-depth training on key aspects of executing document discovery, conducting depositions, drafting and filing motions, and writing persuasively. The second-year curriculum, the Litigation II training series, addresses core litigation skills related to managing discovery, understanding evidentiary issues and preparing for trial. Second-year litigators also participate in our Brief-Writing Workshop, which includes the opportunity to draft a mock brief and meet with a writing skills coach for one-on-one feedback. Training for midlevel and senior associates focuses on building litigation skills and includes a variety of deposition and trial skills programs, as well as more hands-on, experiential workshops.
