The Culture of Inclusion

Inclusion is not a department or an initiative, it is an integral part of our culture. We recognize that different perspectives enrich our institution and help us solve problems more effectively.

“Paul, Weiss is privileged to handle the most important legal issues of our times. Our success is directly attributable to the unique skills, talents and viewpoints contributed by lawyers from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs.”

- Brad Karp, Firm Chairman

Inclusion Culture

Paul, Weiss has a century-old tradition of breaking down walls and shattering barriers. Individuality and diversity of ideas, backgrounds and perspectives are valued here. Our work has contributed to groundbreaking societal change, from assisting Thurgood Marshall in Brown v. Board of Education, to a landmark U.S. Supreme Court victory for Edith Windsor and marriage equality.

A firm’s culture greatly influences the experience of every attorney. We are proud of the collaboration, cooperation and innovation that takes place at Paul, Weiss every day. We intend to provide all of our attorneys with the necessary tools to build stellar, rewarding careers in an inclusive environment.

Working Parent and Family Supports

Paul, Weiss recognizes the challenge of being a caregiver and provides comprehensive benefits and policies to support our lawyers who have caregiving responsibilities including:

  • Working Parent Related Benefits: 12 weeks of paid parental leave, comprehensive infant transition support, multiple options for backup emergency childcare and access to additional services to help our attorneys manage work and life. To enhance support for the transition to parenthood, we have a liaison to help parents navigate benefits and firm resources.
  • Alternative Work Schedule Program: Reduced hours work arrangements are available to all attorneys. Several associates have been promoted to partner while in the program, which has no tenure requirement and can be requested for any reason.
  • Work-Life Coach: The firm engages a leading specialty consulting firm that provides coaching to working parents and organizations that employ them. Our on-retainer consultant is available to couples or individuals to discuss their needs and concerns, including how to support their school-age children.
Family Network

Family Network

The Family Network provides support to working parents and those with adult and other caregiving responsibilities by fostering community, increasing awareness of available benefits, programs and policies and sharing tips and strategies for managing multiple responsibilities.

“At Paul Weiss, we recognize that family and work both require time and attention. Juggling those needs is hard, and we have come to depend on our friends and colleagues around the firm for their invaluable support when needed. The mission of the Family Network is to bring the firm’s formal resources to bear in order to bolster that informal support system, and we are proud to be part of that effort.”
