A partner in the Litigation Department, Paul Brachman represents defendants in antitrust and other complex civil cases in state and federal court. Paul was recently named a Future Star (2026) by Benchmark Litigation, and was recognized on its “40 and Under Hot List” (2023-2025). Paul was also named to The Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch for Antitrust Law (2023).

Recent significant representations include:

  • Intuitive Surgical, Inc. in multiple antitrust matters, including securing a complete defense victory at trial in a high-stakes antitrust suit brought by a competitor alleging unlawful tying and exclusive dealing.
  • News Corporation and certain subsidiaries in defense of multiple antitrust actions brought by competitors, including successfully defending News Corporation in a three-week jury trial in the Southern District of New York.
  • Goldman Sachs in defense of a putative antitrust class action filed in the Southern District of New York alleging that defendant banks violated the antitrust laws by conspiring to inflate interest expenses paid by plaintiffs on municipal bonds.
  • Playfly Sports in the dismissal of a six-count antitrust class action in the N.D. Cal. alleging that Playfly conspired to restrict compensation for high school student athletes in California.
  • Loews Hotels Holding Corporation in the successful dismissal of two putative antitrust class action complaints alleging that leading hotel chains agreed to share competitively sensitive information and raise prices for luxury hotel rooms.
  • Massage Envy Franchising, a nationwide franchisor of massage service businesses, in defense of tort suits filed in jurisdictions nationwide alleging vicarious liability, negligence, fraud and violations of state unfair practices laws.
  • Coinbase Global in defense of consumer class actions, including successfully litigating multiple motions to compel arbitration.

Paul also has an active pro bono practice. He was named an American Lawyer “Litigator of the Week” runner-up (2022) and a Reuters “Pro Bono Hero” for his work first-chairing a 14-day trial challenging a voter ID law (2022). Paul previously represented business owners and neighborhood associations in Charlottesville, Virginia, in a 2018 lawsuit against participants in the violent “Unite the Right” rally, which was favorably resolved through settlement.

In law school, Paul served as editor-in-chief of the NYU Journal of Legislation & Public Policy and was named “Best Oralist” in the 2011–12 Orison S. Marden Moot Court competition.
