Preparation Is Key for Effective Crisis Management, Karen Dunn and Scott Barshay Tell NACD’s Directorship Magazine

Litigation Department Co-Chair Karen Dunn and Corporate Department Chair Scott Barshay published an article on crisis management in the National Association of Corporate Director’s Directorship magazine. In “A Day Late and Many Dollars Short: Start Crisis Management Before the Crisis,” published on December 13, the authors note that planning and preparation are essential for effectively dealing with the variety of enterprise-threatening events a company may face. The authors outline several steps corporate directors can consider before a crisis occurs, such as defining company values, identifying key stakeholders and outside advisers, and establishing the right response team, among others.

“Crisis situations pose challenges unlike anything an organization faces in the normal course of business,” the authors note. “While every crisis is unique, a sustained focus on advanced planning, spotting vulnerabilities, and assessing enterprise risks can give boards and their companies an edge when faced with even the most complex crisis scenario.”
