Litigation partner Roberto Gonzalez spoke with El Financiero about how Mexican financial institutions may be targeted through the U.S. Treasury Department’s tightening enforcement against facilitating money laundering linked to fentanyl trafficking. In the article, “More Institutions in the Country Could Be Accused of Money Laundering,” published on July 10, Roberto says that, given this heightened enforcement, Mexican financial institutions “should consider conducting risk assessments for their exposure to fentanyl and cartel-related illicit financing and, as appropriate, enhance their controls, including customer due diligence and transaction monitoring.”
