Meredith Dearborn and Jessica Phillips Publish Recorder Article on Demystifying Tech in the Courtroom

Practices & Industries

Litigation partners Meredith Dearborn and Jessica Phillips co-wrote an article for The Recorder about ensuring juries and judges understand the technology at issue in a tech-focused trial. In “How to Demystify Tech for a Jury or Judge,” published on October 25, Meredith and Jessica discuss factors trial attorneys may want to consider in demystifying tech both before and during a trial, including choosing the right witnesses and helping them communicate effectively highly technical concepts; using familiar and evocative terms to make tech jargon digestible; and using visual aids to augment witness testimony and make it concrete for the factfinder. Such strategies can foster greater understanding of the technological concepts at issue, which is central to the strength of the narrative an attorney presents at court, and thus integral to the success of a trial.
