Kannon Shanmugam Discusses Importance of Diversifying Appellate Practice With National Law Journal

Litigation partner Kannon Shanmugam spoke with the National Law Journal about the increasing focus of appellate lawyers on the circuit courts as the number of opportunities to argue before the Supreme Court has become more limited in the last term. In “As Docket Shrinks, Supreme Court Lawyers Embrace Circuit Court Work,” published on August 8, Kannon notes that having an expansive appellate practice is the best strategy.

“Even for advocates who argue two to three cases a year in the Supreme Court, we have to figure out what we’re going to do the other 363 days of the year and the vast majority of that is arguing in the lower courts,” Kannon says.
