Jeh Johnson Profiled in Brown Political Review

Practices & Industries

Litigation partner Jeh Johnson was featured in Brown University’s Brown Political Review in a wide-ranging interview on his varied career and experiences in public service. In the article, “Lessons in Law, Leadership, and Leading a ‘Good Life’: An Interview with Jeh Johnson,” Secretary Johnson touches on his choice of law as a career; the qualities of a good leader; the mission to catch Osama bin Laden; balancing national security and his home life; his thoughts on immigration policy and homeland security; his hobbies; and other topics.

“Leadership comes from good instincts about how to be a leader—transparency, being transparent, showing your workforce that you are a champion for them, that you are their representative to the outside world,” Secretary Johnson says in the interview. “It’s good to have an advisor who is more conservative and one who is more progressive; it’s good to have an advisor who is more of a risk taker and an advisor who is risk averse. If you’re prepared to listen, out of that deliberation can come really smart policy and really smart leadership.”
