Litigation partner Yahonnes Cleary was featured in Law.com’s latest “How I Made Partner” column. In the wide-ranging profile, Yahonnes discussed how taking on a variety of matters with a range of lawyers at the firm solidified his decision to pursue a career in private practice and potentially improved his partnership prospects; some of the ways that the work of a partner is different than that of an associate; and how his mentors at the firm supported his development, among other topics.
“Working at a large, busy firm, there are inevitable moments when the long hours and heavy workload can be difficult. And as someone with a public interest background, I occasionally wondered whether I might prefer that career path,” Yahonnes said. “But just about every time I took a step back and thought about the direction of my career at the firm, I decided it was the right path for me. I was enjoying the work and finding it intellectually interesting, I was developing good relationships, and I was getting positive feedback. So when I made partner, it provided some level of confirmation for me that I was right to follow my gut and stick to a career in private practice despite any doubts that I may have had along the way.”
