Digital Technology Group Chair Katherine Forrest’s latest Technology Today column, “The Knowns and Unknowns of Crossing the AI Frontier,” appeared in the July 29 issue of the New York Law Journal. In the article, Katherine discusses the rapid development of AI Frontier models—highly capable models that could pose a serious public safety risk. Katherine highlights the “emergent” abilities of generative AI models—abilities that are discovered after the models have been released for public use—and other concerns, as well as related regulatory developments around the world.
