Real estate partner Peter Fisch shared his insights and predictions for the real estate market in 2024 with Reuters’ Practical Law The Journal as one of a panel of expert contributors. In “Commercial Real Estate: Trends and Predictions (2024),” Peter discusses expected market conditions, hurdles to securing financing and consummating deals, and the apparent increase in fundraising for distressed real estate, which he says is likely to help stimulate transactional activity.
“There seems to be a lot more optimism and opportunism, and several high-quality sponsors are in the market raising new funds for distressed real estate,” Peter says. “While a lot of that capital is likely to be used to recapitalize assets with impending debt maturities, I suspect some of that capital will support more acquisitions of distressed properties. There have been some hopeful recent signs in New York, including an uptick in office leasing and a recent spike in pricing for high-end retail.”
