Cybersecurity & Data Protection Practice Group Chair John Carlin appeared on CNBC to discuss the cybersecurity implications of Anthropic’s unreleased Claude Mythos AI model. Anthropic has said Mythos is capable of empowering an average person to identify and exploit previously undiscovered vulnerabilities across every major operating system and web browser. Because of the potential for damage at a speed and scale never previously possible, John says it’s important for society to develop a new cybersecurity framework that can fix vulnerabilities at scale.
“It’s one thing to focus on, you know, Fortune 100, Fortune 500 companies that have the resources to pour into this, and quickly, and that’s got to be a priority—our critical infrastructure depends on it—but what about mom and pop, the small businesses, medium-sized businesses?” John says. “How do we get them to get the new system that even can be patched in time before this tidal wave of new attacks enabled by AI occurs?”
