Private Funds Group co-head Marco Masotti was extensively quoted in an article, “Private Equity Managers Scramble as Fundraising Pace Speeds Up,” published by FundFire. The article discusses 2021’s rapid fundraising pace due to economic rebounds from the coronavirus pandemic, and highlights a Paul, Weiss Private Funds Group survey of 50 recently raised private equity funds.
“With the end of the pandemic on the horizon, private equity fundraising is accelerating — and may explode — as LPs increase their allocations and GPs expand their product offerings in areas such as growth equity,” Marco says in the survey.
Though it is unclear whether this accelerated pace will continue past 2022, Marco says the private funds market is facing a push toward product innovation, customization for diverse LP needs and an embrace of long-term fund structures that could alter future fundraising patterns. “We’re seeing the natural progression and maturing of the market,” Marco said. “It may be that the pandemic rushed us into the future a little.”
