Litigation partner Lorin Reisner published an op-ed in The Hill, “How the SEC Can Promote Economic Justice Beyond Shareholders.” The article discusses how the SEC can ensure that U.S. corporations promote broader economic success and take greater responsibility for the communities in which they operate. Lorin, a former SEC Enforcement Division deputy director, notes that the agency could require U.S. companies to disclose the extent to which they are serving the interests of employees, diversifying their leadership ranks, and protecting the communities where they operate. The op-ed also suggests that the agency should prioritize investment in corporate responsibility, regulatory policy that averts systemic risk and an enforcement program that inspires investor and public confidence.
