Litigation partner Kim Branscome spoke with the American Lawyer’s “Litigation Daily” column about what she prioritizes when building trial teams. In “#Relatable: Building Trial Teams That Appeal to Jurors,” published on July 10, Kim says that she has found that juries relate best to trial counsel who are genuine and empathetic personalities, rather than counsel who are from a particular background. “There’s a bit of a myth or a misconception that you have to fit a certain mold in order to connect with a jury,” she says. Continuity in the trial team, she adds, is also important, particularly in longer trials involving significant time commitments. “When I build a trial team, the jury is going to see that team consistently,” she says.
