Cybersecurity and Data Protection Co-Chairs John Carlin and Jeannie Rhee and litigation counsel Peter Carey authored an article on Bloomberg Law discussing how companies can mitigate security risks that can arise during downsizing. In “How Companies Can Minimize Cybersecurity Risks During Layoffs,” published on September 18, the authors discuss how to identify possible cybersecurity risks, including insider threats and resource-based threats. They also share strategies for mitigating potential risks, including conducting a robust exit interview process, focusing on continuity, establishing clear policies, keeping track of devices, disabling access, monitoring data and destroying or returning hard copies.
“Understanding the cyber threat landscape and crafting a plan to mitigate against potential issues can help companies prevent risk and focus on moving their businesses forward,” the authors note.
