Litigation partner John Carlin spoke with The Washington Post about a Russian ransomware campaign whose victims allegedly included D.C. police, an airline and other American industries. In “U.S. charges Russian in global ransomware attacks, including on D.C.,” published on May 16, John discussed the U.S. government’s stepped-up enforcement efforts around the attack, and the challenges in identifying the perpetrators.
Law enforcement agencies have increased international collaboration to identify the perpetrators of a cyberattack, John notes, while also deploying various tactics, such as sowing distrust among rival gangs and offering rewards for information.
