Cybersecurity & Data Protection Practice Group Chair John Carlin spoke with Cybersecurity Law Report about the implications of Anthropic’s recent announcement that its Claude Mythos Preview artificial intelligence model, which the company says can exploit software vulnerabilities with unprecedented ease, is too “dangerous” to release publicly. In “Anthropic’s Mythos Model Forces Companies to Regroup for a New Cyber Era,” published on April 22, John warns of the broad enterprise risks exposed by the emergence of Mythos, which could expose the widespread extent of stale IT gear and software that is no longer patchable. “If bad guys get access to a tool like this, they don’t need to be the most efficient or go after the biggest target,” John says. “Likely they can just, at scale, target thousands and thousands of points at once.”
John adds that companies should engage in urgent high-level discussions about disclosures and governance response.
