Litigation partners Jessica Carey and Jaren Janghorbani were featured in a Q&A on Paul, Weiss’s commercial litigation practice in the 2024 edition of “Practice Perspectives: Vault’s Guide to Legal Practice Areas.” In the Q&A, Jessica and Jaren discuss what drew them to litigation, the types of cases they handle, associate training at Paul, Weiss and other topics.
“The stakes are usually very high, and we can never phone it in,” Jessica says, noting that Paul, Weiss litigators represent industry leaders in their thorniest legal challenges—often novel issues without existing solutions. “But it is a privilege, and truly rewarding, to practice at this level—to have the chance to do the most interesting and consequential work alongside the best in your field.”
Jessica and Jaren also comment on the tasks junior litigators in the Paul, Weiss Litigation Department perform. “Junior associates … have the opportunity to truly own some specific aspect of a matter, master the case-specific details, and be the team’s experts on the facts and the law,” Jaren says. “That makes them indispensable colleagues that the team counts on, and it begets more opportunity and responsibility.”
