Brian Hermann and Lauren Bilzin Featured in Vault Q&A on Paul, Weiss’s Restructuring & Debt Capital Solutions Practice

Restructuring & Debt Capital Solutions Co-Head Brian Hermann and partner Lauren Bilzin were featured in a Q&A on Paul, Weiss’s restructuring practice in the 2026 edition of “Practice Perspectives: Vault’s Guide to Legal Practice Areas.” In the Q&A, Brian and Lauren discuss their work, what drew them to the field and other topics.

The partners noted a common misconception that restructuring is a narrow practice. “It’s really one of the last great generalist practices in a BigLaw firm,” Brian says. “You’re exposed to litigation components and transactional components, you’re working both in and out of court, and you’re touching multiple areas of law in a particular restructuring.”

As an example of the cross-disciplinary nature of the practice, Lauren highlights a matter she and Brian advised on together, AMC Entertainment’s recapitalization, as a great example of the intersection of restructuring and financing knowledge that the firm brings to such matters. “What started as something with a litigation posture and a potential bankruptcy ended up with our clients exchanging their debt for new bonds in a really productive transaction,” she notes.

Brian and Lauren also emphasized the department’s collegial nature and the balanced mix of creditor and debtor work that Paul, Weiss regularly handles. Both aspects contribute to an environment where junior lawyers can learn and thrive. “We truly enjoy practicing together, and we are deeply committed to mentoring our junior team members,” Brian says.

Vault’s annual “Practice Perspectives” guide offers insights from lawyers at top-ranked law firms on practicing law in more than 20 different practice areas.
