Finance and Capital Markets Global Co-Chair Eric Wedel spoke with the Financial Times on the state of the private equity market during the first quarter of 2026. In “Record number of megadeals agreed in first quarter of the year,” published on April 1, Eric notes that private equity-backed deals have maintained momentum; despite a 12% decrease in the number of deals, private equity announced deals totaled an impressive $314 billion globally, the article notes. “Deals are very opportunistic and fueled by big strategic transactions, while the regular-way private equity deal machine remains active, albeit more discerning, across the market,” Eric says.
