Matt Abbott Discusses Expected Uptick in Private Equity M&A Deals for 2024 With The American Lawyer

Corporate partner Matthew Abbott was quoted in an article in The American Lawyer about the recent surge in M&A deal activity, with private equity behind two of the six biggest deals announced over the past week. In the article, Deal Watch: Big Week in Multiple Verticals in M&A, Matt noted that he’s seen an uptick in consolidation in the private investment management space, which allows private equity firms to launch new products.

“While private equity firms historically just stuck to one standard offering, for years we have been seeing a growing trend of firms expanding into credit, infrastructure, real estate or impact funds,” he said. “It’s a trend we expect to see more of in the year ahead, and investment management M&A and PE firms’ interest in expanding into new strategies will almost certainly drive more work for law firms with broad experience structuring funds and doing deals in new verticals.”

The article also highlights General Atlantic’s announced acquisition of Actis, which creates a private equity entity with $96 billion in assets under management, and Blackstone’s proposed $3.5 billion acquisition of Tricon Residential—both of which were led by Paul, Weiss.
