Deputy chair and counsel, e-discovery, Ross Gotler and director of e-discovery services Josh Zylbershlag participated in a Sedona Conference webinar analyzing the organization’s recent publication, The Sedona Conference Primer on the Electronic Discovery Implications of the Internet of Things (IoT). The panelists explored how the proliferation of interconnected devices—ranging from wearables to smart home systems—has transformed the landscape of electronically stored information (ESI); what guidance the primer provides on identifying, preserving, collecting and producing IoT ESI, as well as the challenges IoT ESI poses to traditional discovery frameworks; and why proportionality, collaboration and technical fluency in managing IoT data is needed across the discovery lifecycle.

Ross served as senior editor and a steering committee liaison, and Josh served as a drafting team leader on the primer, which is open for public comment through September 5.

The Sedona Conference is a nonprofit research and educational institute dedicated to the advanced study of law and policy in the areas of antitrust law, complex litigation, intellectual property rights, and data security and privacy law. The webinar was held on August 26.
