On May 1, former Paul, Weiss partner and co-chair of the Antitrust Group Joseph Simons (PW 2003) was sworn in as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission, after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 26. In this role, Joe will lead the agency that helps protect American consumers and promote competition in the U.S. economy.
This is Joe’s third turn at the FTC. He served as director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition between 2001 and 2003. In the 1980s, Joe served as the FTC’s associate director for Mergers and assistant director for Evaluation. He earned the FTC’s Award for Meritorious Service.
During his career at Paul, Weiss, Joe led merger clearance and litigation antitrust matters in a broad range of industries, including electronics, energy, payments, pharmaceuticals, sports and telecommunications.
