This edition of the Paul, Weiss Private Equity Digest continues our discussion of key considerations for private equity transactions resulting from the new tax law.
In market news, private equity fundraising and exits are up significantly for the month of June as compared to May. Fundraising more than doubled from 9 funds closing in May to 19 closed in June, while total dollars raised nearly tripled from $5.5 billion to $14.6 billion. The total number of exits also increased, with more corporate sales and IPOs and fewer secondary buyouts, although the dollar volume of exits fell in each category. In contrast to the robust fundraising market, M&A activity fell, with a modest decrease in both the number and disclosed dollar volume of both U.S. and global sponsor-related M&A deals.
