Paul, Weiss was named “Cross-border M&A Legal Adviser of the Year” by Mergermarket at its annual China M&A Awards. Our representation of Wumei in its €1.9 billion acquisition of Germany’s Metro AG’s retail, wholesale and cash-and-carry operations in China, including Metro AG’s majority interest in some 45 subsidiaries, was awarded “Consumer M&A Deal of the Year,” and our representation of General Atlantic, as a lead member of an investor consortium, in its acquisition of 58.com, was also awarded “Private Equity Deal of the Year.” The China M&A Awards recognize excellence in law firms and professional firms advising on complex Chinese-related transactions.
The judging process started with research and analysis of Mergermarket league tables and deal data, followed by a shortlist announcement. Shortlisted firms were invited to make submissions, which were then reviewed and scrutinized by a sophisticated judging panel consisting of six industry experts from investment banking, private equity, financial advisory, legal advisory and academia, as well as two reporting professionals from Acuris.
